Abstract

The 1871 diary of Lucinda Merriss Cornell focuses on her life and work at home with family and with friends and acquaintances. She is the mother of two, Blanche and Otto, and pregnant with a daughter born in November. This diary does include information on deaths of known persons. Notable dates include:

January 6: Katy Spring died.

July 4: Trune Anderson died in Columbus.

July 22: The father of Tilly Dickers died.

August 8: Charley and Frank Rodgers board with Cornell family while attending Otterbein University.

September 3: Uncle Wm. (William?) Bishop died.

November 11: Lucinda’s baby, a little girl, is born. (Abbie Geneva Cornell)

December 31: Received news of Inez Shanks death.
