Abstract
The 1870 diary of Lucinda Cornell details her life at home in Westerville as a homemaker and mother of young children. It includes information about births and deaths of known persons. A list of significant dates include:
January 8: Mrs. Hattie Brinkerhoff died 5 p.m. of consumption.
January 26: Lucinda reports that the United Brethren (U.B.) church burned down at night.
January 30: Lucinda’s little boy was born at 2 AM.
April 17: Mrs. Ella Wibling Carpenter died of consumption, survived by a husband & 2-year-old boy.
April 23: The Egglestons child died.
May 22: The Egglestons other child, a little boy 1 year & 20 days old, died in the morning.
June 26: John takes Blanche to Sabbath School for the first time(?).
September 30: Libbie Armistead died 5 p.m. at Scioto.
