Abstract
This project is a collection of personal essays that explores the author’s ever-changing relationship with humor and the comic. Before indulging the body of the project, there will first be a critical preface that serves to describe the methodology of how the personal essay works as a form of creative writing, how the genre serves the project and its topic, and the way in which the author uses the personal essay in his creative process. Additionally, the preface will also make an explicit description of the greater purpose and intention of the author’s writing as it fits into the discipline of English and creative writing. After this, the project will lead into the body of the project, consisting of seven essays, ranging between four to eight pages individually, serving as the main substance of the project. After the body’s conclusion, the project will end with a bibliography of all sources used for this project, whether referenced or cited. This includes professional comedians/speakers as well as scholarly work that has been done on humor.
