The sixteen landscape paintings in this collection, like the Fish paintings, are made from brightly colored acrylic and pastels. Often depicting fanciful places, as seen in A Place for Aunt Jennifer’s Tiger to Prowl, Joanne’s landscapes often recall the history of art. Her Revising Lorenzetti: Peaceful Countryside/Peaceful City, for example, revisits the 14th century painter Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s allegorical masterpieces that show the effects of good and bad government in his prosperous city-state of Siene.
