Description
One of the two women to comprise Otterbein's first graduating class (1857), Kate Winter Hanby defied the practices of the nineteenth century by never remarrying after her husband Ben died, and by working as a teacher and a farmer to support herself and her two children. In her later years she was revered as Otterbein's oldest living graduate.
