Item Description
Color: Grey blue, beige, multicolored flowers
Material: Silk Taffeta
Fabric Construction: Fabric is probably from early to mid nineteenth century since bodice was remade from earlier shirt. No sign of weighting damage.
Neckline: High, overlaps in front
Waist: Boned and fitted, 3 inch tabs at waistline
Sleeve: Balloon sleeves
Closure: Hooks and eyes
Condition of Object: Some staining under arm and on sleeve but otherwise excellent.
Repairs: 1/26/90- Restitched collar on after having removed previous stitching done in white and grey thread. Repaired tears in both sleeves. Moved 2 eyes at the bottom of bodice to correct closure. All repairs done in blue silk thread.
Historical Significance: Owned by donor's mother. Fabric may have come from China via dipper ship as original owner's husband was a sea captain.
