Description

This group photograph captures a significant moment in the collaboration between the scholars from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Dr. Anna Young, and staff from Columbus Zoo. The occasion marked an insightful meeting at the Columbus Zoo, where participants gathered to exchange invaluable ideas and share their wealth of experiences in zoo management. Noteworthy figures in the photograph include Dr. Songrui Liu, the first person from the left in the front row, and Mr. Wenjun Huang, who stands second from the left in the same row. Both individuals represent the esteemed Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

Dr. Young stands second from the left in the second row and is pivotal as the Assistant Professor and Director of the Zoo and Conservation Science Program at Otterbein University.

The connections between Otterbein University and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding were fostered through the origins of the partnership of the Otterbein China librarian exchange program. In 2014, this collaboration blossomed into creating an internship program tailored for students pursuing studies in the Zoo and Conservation program at Otterbein University. This pioneering program allowed students to engage in long-term conservation and research initiatives involving pandas at the PANDA BASE. Two fortunate students from Otterbein University would embark on this transformative journey each year. In reciprocity, Otterbein University would graciously host researchers from the PANDA BASE in Ohio. This generous gesture was aimed at facilitating the exchange of invaluable insights and knowledge in zoo and conservation science.
