Description
Otterbein University celebrated the 60th anniversary of its founding in 1907. As part of the celebration alumnus, former president, and long-serving professor of languages and philosophy (1870-1904) Dr. Henry Garst published the first history of the school, simply titled History of Otterbein University. Drawing on both print resources and his own personal recollections, this book reviews the struggles in the United Brethren Church to establish the school, the hardship in the pioneer days including crushing debts and the destruction of the original main building, and the triumph of the students, alumni, and faculty and administration in bringing Otterbein out of debt, building a modern campus, and establishing itself as a fully credentialed university.
